Pride and Prejudice

Aubree and Lily had the idea to dress as the Bennett sisters from Pride and Prejudice for Halloween. It didn't take much at all for them to convince Nellie to be their little sister, Kitty (I think the words "kitty" and "pretty dress" sealed the deal).
Then they started to think bigger...."What if we convinced a couple boys to be Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingham?"
Honestly, I didn't think they had much of a chance, but they were undeterred, and soon found a willing participant - their friend Vale. The scoured Goodwill for costumes and were thrilled when Vale found a top hat.
With a little guidance from Pinterest pictures, we took an oversized, 99-cent, Goodwill suit coat and altered it to make a fancy Victorian coat complete with ruffles and coat tails. Aubree made an ascot from a Goodwill lace tablecloth. We added buttons to the front of the dress pants to make them look old fashioned.
Then came to true coup. The girls managed to convince Jack (Lily's younger brother who is Aubree's age) to also join in the group costume. That meant another trip to Goodwill...

another suit coat to alter...
and another ascot for Aubree to make.

The girls were proud of the transformation.
The night of the ward party also happened to be the same night as a Stake costume dance, so they were all very excited to show off their costumes (except perhaps Jack, who found himself wondering what the heck he'd gotten himself into).
They all came over to our house to finalize their preparations. Aubree and Lily spent a long time doing each others hair, and Vale even dyed his hair black so he could be Mr. Bingham.
Aubree is convinced these were the "Best Costumes Ever." As a bibliophile, I can't disagree. They nailed it.
Major props again to Vale and Jack for agreeing to the scheme.
This is Aubree after the dance showing off all the bobby pins she pulled out of her hair.
Aubree and Lily immediately started talking about costume ideas for next Halloween.
