PSC

I loath driving into downtown Seattle, but every once in a while I can be tempted into making the trip. Last week we met up with friends to visit the Pacific Science Center. I'll be honest and admit spending the day with friends was more tempting than the Science Center. My GPS took us a new route through the newly completed SR-99 tunnel. That was pretty neat, right up until the tunnel made us lose the GPS signal, and we missed the correct exit and got a little lost. That wasn't a fortuitous way to start the day, but thankfully the rest of the excursion proved much less "exciting."
I'm not exactly sure why, but the mirrors in the entrance are always so entrance are always so entertaining.
This picture makes Aubree look like she's squeezing Graham's head into nothingness.
The bubble wall is also pretty neat, though I don't envy the employee who has to clean up the slippery floors every day.
We watched a science show about wind, solar, and and geothermal power. It was just what you'd expect from a Seattle show.
While the big kids watched the show, Elizabeth took Rosie and Nellie, and they got to play in the toddler area. This was my first time visiting a science center or children's museum in at least a year, and I was impressed with how different (read: easier) it is to visit without a baby or young toddler. I think that bodes well for our big road trip.
No matter how many times we visit the Butterfly House, it still remains a fan favorite.

I would argue that checking out the soon-to-hatch chrysalises is the best part of the exhibit.

Last time we visited the butterflies, Nellie was so terrified she kept her face buried in my neck the whole visit. This time around she was much braver. Well, right up until a butterfly landed on my shoulder while I was carrying her. Aubree scooped her up so she wasn't quite so close to the insect.
Even then, though, her fear soon turned to hysterical giggles.
While she might have been nervous around the butterflies, she thought the Giant African Millipedes were pretty great. Funny girl!
We also got to watch a 3-D IMAX movie about sea turtles. Overall, it was a reasonably fun trip. We loved being with our friends, and didn't have any traffic on the way home, but I'm still not convinced it was worth the drive into the city.
