I'd say we've been solidly mediocre about field trips so far this school year (although, if we consider our road trip one big field trip, then we'll definitely be closing out the year with a bang!).
*At the beginning of February, before Snomaggedon hit, we visited the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum. I was underwhelmed, but Bryce at least seemed interested in the boats and motors.
During a question and answer segment with the owner, they were discussing how much it costs to own and operate a hydroplane, Graham raised his hand and asked, "Does Jeff Bezos come here?" That got a good laugh, and the answer was no.
The highlight was when the kids got to climb into one of the hydroplanes.
*Later that month, during mid-winter break, we made plans to go ice skating with Homes United. When Nellie spent the night before the activity puking, I had to tell my kids we could no longer go skating. They were crestfallen.
Then Tallie found out that Nellie was sick and said, "I'm coming to get your other kids. I'll be there in 10 minutes!" We scrambled to get everyone ready, and when she pulled up threw a few snacks into her arms.
I figured they'd be home shortly after lunch, tired from two hours of skating, but at 1:30pm, Tallie texted, "what time do they have to be home? We're having such a good time!"
They stayed so long that all the boys came home with blisters and burns from where the skates rubbed their feet and legs, but they were still all smiles. They were also very, very hungry.
*When our Parent Partnership offered tickets to see the Peter and the Wolf symphony, I figured I'd be a pretty poor violinist parent if we didn't attend. Graham was the only one interested in trying out the pre-show instrument petting zoo. Well, Aubree wanted to show off on a violin, but the only had tiny options.
The show is short, only a little over an hour, and ended up being quite fun. The main symphony character was played by a mime, and she was hilarious.
*Another beautiful, sunny Friday we met up with friends to explore a new park on the Lake Washington waterfront.
*Recently we had a phenomenal field trip to Flying Circus, which is pretty much a kid's dream come true.
The whole place is full of trampolines, foam pits, obstacle courses, jumping walls, and other highly physical activities.
The boys really liked getting to joust and try to knock each other off the beam. Well, until Bryce got knocked in the face. He didn't like that too much.
For sure this place is an injury waiting to happen (the waiver that must be signed to participate is extensive), but it was safer than I'd expected. It probably helped that we were there during school hours, so it wasn't very busy.
Nellie jumped right in. Literally.
The kids all had a great time. Even the big kids can't wait to come back for another field trip.
