Grandma and Grandpa Winters flew in for Bryce's baptism. Since they were only here for an extended weekend, we filled our days with activities. When they arrived Thursday afternoon, they were only at the house long enough for a quick dinner before they zipped out the door to attend Aubree's school science and art fair.
Friday morning they accompanied me and the kids to a new play area in town. It was a fitting trip, since they had gifted the kids passes for Christmas. Bryce is just aging out of this type of place, but he and Thane managed to make their own fun. They collected all the biggest bills they could find at the grocery store, then snuck around the facility pretending to be bank robbers. "Mom," Bryce explained, "the workers are the police, so we have to hide and run away from them."
That seemed okay to me, until one of the workers came walking towards us, glaring at Bryce. "Uh oh, buddy," I warned, "You can't be running away from the workers if they need to tell you something."
Bryce laughed, "Don't worry Mom! We told them all about the game. Whenever they see us, they point their flower pencils at us, and pretend to try to catch us."
Oh, Phew.
Graham is in no danger of aging out of the activities contained in this play town. He was 110% thrilled with everything he encountered. He spent a little bit of time as a veterinarian and a grocery shopper, but he primarily stuck to his role as a fire fighter. He especially enjoyed talking on the CB radio.
We stuck around long enough for Nellie to begin to warm up to her grandparents. She even let Grandpa hold her for a relatively extended period of time (5-10 minutes). It helped that she found his watch fascinating. That's a pretty big deal. She doesn't like anyone outside of her immediate family to hold her.
Saturday, after the baptism and luncheon, Grandma and Grandpa joined Mark, Aubree, and Bryce at a special showing of The Jungle Book. Our good Bishop had rented out a nearby theater for his work, and was able to invite friends as well. We decided the live action movie might be too scary for the 5 and younger crowd, so I stayed home with the littles. Thane was upset, but it helped that he had Finey and his cousin Anna here to keep him occupied.
When they returned from the movie, it was time for another quick dinner before heading off to Bryce's piano recital. He played "He's a Pirate" from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. He was quite proud of himself for learning it because it's five pages long. I don't have any pictures, because I stayed home with the little kids, but I have it on good authority that he did a great job!
On Monday, we let Aubree play hooky from school and set off to spend the day at Northwest Trek. It's been a couple years since we've gone, so some of the novelty has returned. Of course, we began the day with the tram ride through the 400+ acres of free-roaming land. Our friends joined us for the day, which meant extra fun.

Nellie slept for just a little bit while on the tram. I'd hoped she'd sleep longer, but I guess I should be thankful for whatever I can get when we're out and about!
The tram ride does offer some spectacular views. Graham was my seat buddy.
Having Grandma and Grandpa with us was a treat. It was nice to lower the adult/kid ratio, and the kids loved being able to share the day with them.
One reason we decided to return to Northwest Trek, is that they just build an enormous kid play area. It's pretty impressive. I have a feeling our kids would be more than happy to spend the entire day just playing in that area. No one wanted to leave when it was time to head home.
Major thanks to Ashley for capturing these great shots of our kids!

It was a very fun day, but definitely hard on non-sleeping Nellie. It didn't help that she was still fighting a cold and not feeling so great. I thought for sure she'd crash on the long, hour drive home. Ha! When will I learn?
