Summer-, Summer-, Summertime!

I think it's been a pretty good summer so far.  With the extra hot temperatures, we've spent a bit more time indoors than usual, but the kids have mostly found ways to keep themselves entertained.  For example, there have been many extravagant Duplo creations.  These projects are generally engineered and led by Bryce, but he's been great about letting Thane and Graham help out.
The boys also spend a significant amount of time playing games.  "War" is still popular, but it's been eclipsed by dominoes (Mark taught them to play Get-Away Train) as the most popular.  I've been super impressed with how well Bryce and Thane include Graham in their games.  Graham loves it.  In fact, many mornings when he wakes up, the first word out of his mouth is, "Dominoes!!"  I've never heard of another two-year old whose favorite games are War and Dominoes!
We haven't been completely housebound.  We've made it to the park numerous times, and the kids are great at getting themselves as dirty as possible in the shortest amount of time.
Going to the park is always more fun with friends... On this particular day, they spent just a few minutes on the play structures, before venturing off to more interesting pursuits (mostly dirt and tree stumps).  They ended up climbing around on the bleachers experimenting with making lots and lots of noise.
And speaking of friends, check out these Super Kids!
We've spent time in the backyard with the water table and sprinklers (but now that I think about it, we haven't done that activity as often as we should have)...
If you know us at all, you'll guess that the library is a huge part of our summer activities.  Aubree went to a library event where she made her own e-book!  Bryce and Thane had a chance to build cars that worked via wind power.
Thane was super hesitant to participate at first, but once he got going, he was totally focused and excited to try his ideas.
His first creation was way too top heavy, so he revamped and came up with something more effective.
Aubree participated in a week long Rube Goldberg camp.  If you don't know what that is, well, neither did I when I first heard about it!  Mark, however, knew all about it and was super excited about the idea (here's a link to a classic Rube Goldberg project video).  I was a little surprised when Aubree enthusiastically said she wanted to do the camp.
Aubree, her friend Lena, and eight boys spent a week putting together a series of contraptions that ultimately did a "simple task."  In their case, the simple task was launching a water balloon.  At the conclusion of the week long camp, all of the families came to watch the culmination of their efforts.  It was pretty impressive to see the things they'd put together!
And what would summer be without a little excitement?  When my dryer stopped working well, I asked Mark to check the vent to see if that might be the problem.  Lo and behold, he found a bird's nest with three eggs!  Yikes!
And just to keep things real, here's a video of a recent morning ...
