In mid-June, our Stake sponsors a 1K/5K/10K fun run.
This year Aubree attempted to run the 5K. She trained for a few months before-hand by running on Saturdays with Mark. The weeks leading up to the big race, they consistently ran a little over two miles. Aubree didn't love it, but was always able to sprint at the the very end of their runs. She made a goal of beating my best 5K time.

The race itself, however, ended up being harder than she expected. She ran the first half pretty well, but once they turned around and started to make their way back, she struggled to keep up her motivation and willingness to try. Still, she managed to muster the energy to sprint at the end. I didn't run more than two miles until I was nearly thirty, so I'm super impressed with her accomplishments. Aubree says she's done with running. I hope that's short-lived, because she really has a lot of potential.
Before Aubree and Mark's race, Bryce and Thane got to run their 1K. I obviously couldn't run with them, and Mark was getting ready to run with Aubree, so they did the race on their own.
Well, as "on your own" as you can be with a big group of little kids!
Turns out, they probably could've used an adult prodding them along. When Bryce returned, he admitted, "I really wasn't ready for that race. I should probably train next time."
Thane walked most of the way, but did demonstrate his funny, bouncing gait the last little bit before the finish line.
After the race we made our way over to watch our city's little parade. The highlight of this adventure was watching Graham guard the candy he received; He kept both arms protectively around it for the duration of the parade!
