Another highlight of turning twelve is the ability to attend the temple and do baptisms for the dead. That sounds creepy, but it's really a beautiful doctrine that illustrates that God is no respecter of persons. In the briefest of summaries, baptisms for the dead means that living people are baptized by proxy (for and in behalf of) deceased individuals, so the saving ordinance is available to all. Months before Aubree turned twelve, Aunt Sue reached out and asked if she could be part of taking Aubree to the temple for the first time. Sue is heavily involved in family history and wanted to bring names of our ancestors that still needed the baptismal ordinance performed. Of course, we agreed whole-heartedly. What a way to make an already special occasion even better?!
Sue came up and spent a whole weekend with us. On Saturday afternoon, Katie watched our younger kids while Sue, Mark, Aubree, and I went to the Seattle Temple. It was a beautiful day and it was a delight to visit such a peaceful, holy place with people we love.
When we arrived at the baptistry, a member of the Temple Presidency, aware that it was Aubree's first time in the temple, came down and spoke briefly with us about the joy of serving in the temple. He invited Aubree (and the rest of us) to come back often. We look forward to taking his advice!
