Willoughby Wallaby Woo

We've had an exciting summer and I'm a trillion posts behind, but I realized I never blogged about a few end-of-the-school-year field trips.  I have just a few minutes to write, so instead of tackling a bigger topic, I will throw this quick one up.
As part of Aubree's co-op cooking class, we took a tour of Costco.  Mark was able to join us! We've toured Costco with preschool kids before, but it was fun to go with big kids and be able to learn about more detailed and advanced behind-the-scenes information.
Some of the highlights included watching the butchers, learning how the pizzas are made, and getting cookies at the end.
Another day we scheduled a field trip to a nearby Wallaby Farm. Katie and her kids joined our homeschool group for the day! The farm owner/tour guide was a little interesting, but I suppose you'd have to be to decide you want to spend your life raising wallabies and kangaroos, right?
He spent the first 30 minutes showing us slides and teaching us all about wallabies and kangaroos.  Seriously fascinating things like - the main reason kangaroos have tails is to allow them to walk, and kangaroos can keep an embryo in "paused" growth status for up to two years.
At the end of the information session, Mr. Interesting Owner opened his black coat to reveal a baby wallaby he wears in a sack around his neck at all times (the baby's mother died, so he's the surrogate "mom"). He allowed all the kids to hold baby Victory.
She's pretty adorable.
Then we went out in the main pens with the big kangaroos and wallabies and got to pet them.
Definitely not something I've ever done before!
After the Wallaby Farm tour, we skipped over to Snoqualmie Falls for a quick lunch at the look-out vista.  It's such a gorgeous view! Someday we will have to come back and hike down to the bottom of the falls.
