This weekend our Relief Society sponsored an overnight "retreat" to our Bishop's cabin. It's not always easy for moms to get away from home, so I was impressed with how many wonderful women were able to attend (and kudos to the husbands and dads for holding down the home fronts!).
We all arrived around 8 pm Friday evening and spent long hours talking, playing games, laughing, and getting to know each other. Admittedly, it was strange to not have pressure to get home and take care of regular responsibilities.
The next morning many of us ventured outside to check out the sledding hill. Standing at the top, looking down the steep slope, left me questioning our sanity, but we had to try it.
And after a couple trips down, I was converted. Lots of women stayed outside for an hour or two experimenting with different tubes, sleds, hills, and positions (face first was my favorite), and we had a blast.
After a couple hours, most women retreated to the warmth of the cabin, and only five of us were left. And that's when things got really fun as we pushed all the limits. We got creative with different ways to link up the tubes to generate maximum speed and distance. Five linked tubes? Three tubes holding five people? Two tubes holding five people? "This will have to be our last run," we'd tell each other, but once at the bottom, we knew we had to try, "just one more!"
We had such a great time! It was exhilarating... and as an added bonus, the treks up to the top of the hill were a great workout.
