Recess Antics

When I ask Aubree, "what did you do at school today?" she almost never tells me anything about what happens inside the classroom.  Instead, I get riveting tales of her recess activities.  For the first few months of the school year, the reports were consistent... she and her two best friends spent every recess on the bars.  They practiced and invented numerous types of flips and spins until they'd mastered them all.  At that point, they choreographed elaborate, synchronized routines.  One of their routines was about volcanoes, and they even recruited fellow classmates to narrate and performed for the rest of their class.  They created another routine around Veteran's Day that revolved around patriotic songs.
Once the weather turned cooler and wetter, they had to abandon their beloved bars.  That didn't stop their imaginations.  For a while a group of kids decided they were going to put on their own Sound of Music play.  They parceled out parts, and worked on their singing and performing skills.
Next, the girls decided they were Season Fairies.  Aubree came home telling stories of how the Winter Fairy and the Summer Fairy were "fighting," by alternately freezing then thawing the ground.
Most recently, they've determined they are all magical Arctic animals.  Each participant pretends to be an animal (Aubree is a Snowy Owl), and they each have numerous children, complete with names, temperaments, and sometimes even special powers.
I can't tell you how pleased I am that Aubree's found such great friends. I love that they spend their time together playing as little girls should, and the only drama is the acting kind.
