Night of the Notables

Aubree's program at school has been working on a big project; each student picks a notable person from history and spends almost two months studying that person.  The whole idea is that they learn enough to "become" that person for a special presentation for friends and family.  In preparation for this event, they draw a portrait, write an "auto"biography, draft a timeline, design a booth, put together a costume, write a short riddle/speech, and decide on two additional "fun" projects (Aubree made a diorama and a game board) all in relation to their notable.  Phew!

Tonight was the culmination of all that hard work.  Bet you can guess which notable Aubree chose...
It was really impressive to see all the kids dressed up in character, ready and willing to show off their projects and answer questions about "their" life.
After viewing the boards and projects, we all moved into the multi-purpose room where the kids gave their one-minute speeches/riddles.  Aubree admits she was quite nervous, and as a result it's a little hard to hear the last half of her rhyme. (Queen of the Nile/ known for my style/ Richest Queen on Earth/ beautiful by birth/ Charmed people by the minute/ if you had a contest, I could win it/ When I held the basket/ I was practically holding my casket/ I undid the clasp/ and saw the asp/ And that would be/ The last thing I'd see.  If you know who I am, hiss like a snake...)
Following the presentations, Aubree was completely giddy. On the drive home she was already talking about how she "can't wait" to do it again next year, and specifically requested that I "blog about it."
She was also excited to introduce us to her favorite new friends in her class.  Adorable girls!
