Fair-well to Summer

Going to the fair is always a highlight for our family. With Aubree starting high school, this year we decided to visit before school started. We went on a Friday, the opening day of the fair. That meant Aubree didn't have to miss school or miss the fair, but it also meant that there were a lot more people there than we're used to having. We're spoiled homeschoolers, so we don't love crowds.
The powers that be also switched around a lot of our favorite fair activities. Some we managed to find in different locations (like the fishing pool), some we couldn't track down (like the archery and snow shoeing), and some were gone (like the squished birthday pennies). That was disappointing.
Thankfully, there were some things that didn't change. The big kids were great at helping Nellie and Graham on the tractor rides.
We enjoyed looking at the animals on display and managed to find the ugliest pigeon ever!
Graham was excited to try mutton busting again. He was pretty confident he'd win the whole thing, so he was quite upset when he fell off just a few second into the ride. He blames the sheep.
He left with a little souvenir of his ride - a bruise where the sheep stepped on him.
Aubree's now officially too old to get her face painted, but the younger four took full advantage.
The interactive Farm-to-Table exhibit was still a lot of fun.
We had to hunt to find the collections exhibits (they moved them to a hidden corner of the fair), but they were as enjoyable as ever.
Of course, no trip to the fair would be complete without finishing off with ice-cream cones!
It wasn't our favorite ever visit to the fair, but it was a great final family activity to finish off the summer.
