Spring Soccer 2019

Well, yes, we are well into Fall soccer already, but I figure I should probably clean up the few posts I had drafted before we left on Road Trip USA before jumping into the summer and start of school posts. I'm soooo behind.
*********
Last fall Graham played on a soccer team stuffed full of friends. Approximately zero of those friends chose to play spring soccer, so he ended up on a team of strangers. That didn't faze Graham one bit. He got right to work making all those strangers his friends. They had a lot of really, really good players, so they ended up winning all their games.
Graham decided he really enjoyed playing goalie. There were a few times he was distracted and completely missed the ball coming towards him, but most of the time he did pretty well.
On team picture day, we realized when we arrived at the game that he'd accidentally worn his fall jersey. Whoops! He was uber embarrassed and begged to be allowed to play goalie the whole game so the goalie jersey would cover up his mistake. He opted not to be in the team picture with the mismatching shirt.
His team had a big end-of-season party at a local pizza restaurant. He enjoyed eating a table with friends and getting recognition from his coach.
Thane's team also had a lot of really good players, but they had a fairly equal win/loss ratio. Thane is really figuring out how to be a solid and contributing member of the team.
This was probably his last season playing soccer for Coach Rigtrup. She's great at teaching fundamentals and helping kids improve. Now she's moving up to coach at a higher level. Thane will miss some of the friends he's played with for a couple years now.
Bryce ended up on another really solid team.
A lot of the other 5th/6th grade teams were also pretty solid, so all their games were enjoyably competitive. Bryce is not the most aggressive player, but he always gives his best effort and is getting much more confident. His team ended up winning the tournament again.
We left on our road trip from his soccer game! Mark took the boys' soccer cleats and shin guards home for us, but they all had their soccer jerseys for the next two months to remind them of the fun season.
