The last half of December brought some less-fun adventures, but before I get to those (in an upcoming post), I'll finish highlighting the enjoyable activities.
*We invited the Bradshaw family over to make salt dough nativities.
When they learned that we've made nativities for years and years, they were initially hesitant to participate, worried that their first attempts would look amateur in comparison.
Once we got started, it didn't take long for them to realize that, at
least with our family, experience does not translate into competence. Thanks to Nellie and Graham, we had some extra snakes in our manger scene this time around.
Getting together with friends for this activity is always a lot of fun!
*Aubree had a swimming class every Saturday from November through December. Most of the time Mark and I took turns taking her, but one Saturday Mark was busy volunteering, so while Aubree swam, I took the other kids to play at the nearby park.
Hurrah for sunny days!
*The primary kids acted out the nativity scene during sharing time. Thane was a sheep and refused to stop baaing for the rest of the meeting.
*We had a Christmas party at FLEET. The kids rotated through five different, Christmas-themed stations.
One of the favorite stations was an ornament gift exchange.
*I took Aubree, Bryce, and Aubree's friend Abby to see another one of our talented co-op kids perform a solo with the Ensign Chorus in Seattle. While we knew he would be soloing, we expected him to just have a small line. We were astounded to discover he had almost a whole song, with the Ensign chorus as background. He nailed it! Pretty impressive for an 11 year old!
*I forgot to take pictures of our Christlike dinner. Ugh! That's because we were having such a good time with the Jensen family that it didn't even cross our minds to pause to get photo proof that the event occurred. Katie Jensen is the Young Women's President in our ward. She has seemingly limitless love and enthusiasm for the young women over whom she presides. She is an shining example of Christ-like love and service, and it was such a joy to have her and her family over. Bryker (who is Aubree's age) made a bunch of origami claws while he was here. Graham wore them for most of the next week.
*Aubree and some of her violin friends performed in our sacrament meeting. This video is of them practicing before the meeting started.
*Aubree had a fabulous Christmas party at her Homes United Co-op, but we don't have the pictures yet. The kids drew names for a gift exchange. Hank drew Aubree's name, but he was in Hawaii during the Christmas party, so he stopped by later to deliver her present.
Socks that say, "Sorry I can't, I'm all booked," were a perfect choice!
