Have I mentioned before that I love preschool field trips?
I have?
Well, not all of them rise quite to the "love" level...
Our last trip took us to the local grocery store. When we lived in Florida we took our preschool group and my cub scouts to Publix and we had amazing experiences, so admittedly, my expectations were high. The Publix employees took us behind the scenes in the bakery, deli, loading/unloading, produce, and meat areas. Then they let the kids pretend to be clerks and run the check out stands.
The Fred Meyer tour guides were extremely patient and generous, but I got the feeling giving a tour was not a typical request. They took the kids around to all the different sections of the store (but never "behind the scenes") and tried to talk to the kids a little about each area. Unfortunately, the kids were a little (a lot?) crazy. There was a constant parent chorus of, "don't touch that!"
The kids loved the tour because they received samples of apples, grapes, cookies, and fried potatoes. Once they realized food was involved, they happily followed Mr. Pied Piper and occasionally even listened to what he told them.
I suppose not all field trips can be unqualified successes. At least, Graham enjoyed cruisin' with his pal, Dallin.
