Royal Friends

I haven't blogged at all this month.  That's not because there is nothing to blog about.  Rather, there is so much that it's hard to know where to start and extra hard to set aside the time to do it!
I didn't mean for this summer to be so busy, but as the days started flying by, I quickly realized that I forgot to schedule in any "down" days.  Stay-at-home-and-do-nothing days are good for the soul (and the blog).
So, backing up a few weeks... our first visitors of the season hailed from one of our favorite destinations, Royal City.
A quick bit of background: We met Andrea and Spencer when they lived in Wymount (BYU) for one summer.  I was pregnant with Aubree and would go walking with a couple other pregnant ladies every morning.  Soon after moving in, Andrea happily learned she was pregnant and joined our group.  As we walked, she would stop every so often to throw up, then continue on her way, apologizing for holding us up!  She's tenacious like that.
She had a beautiful little girl shortly after I had Aubree.
Then, she had a boy a few months after I had Bryce.
No surprise, after I had Thane, she likewise got another boy.
When I found out I was pregnant with Graham, I sent her the following email:
"I thought I'd let you know that I'm pregnant.  So, if you're not pregnant yet - be aware - you probably will be soon.  If you are already pregnant, and happen to be further along than me, please let me know when you find out what gender we'll be having. ;)"
Just one month after Graham was born, well, you know the ending.
Next round we're both planning on girls (and no, this is not an announcement!).
Back to the original story... we were finally able to convince Andrea and Spencer to come over the Pass for a short visit in the middle of June.  They experienced such a comedy of errors along the way, however, that I worry they might not come back!
First, construction crews were blasting rocks which led to road closures on the Pass.  That left them sitting at a dead stop for hours in their car.  Once traffic finally started moving again, they missed their correct exit and had to go the extra long route in order to meet us at the Point Defiance Zoo.
It was a beautiful day at the zoo, but shortly after arriving, sweet Megan got sick and spent the rest of the time huddled in the stroller.
Our perfectly paired kids had a great time playing with each other, but their baby had a hard time sleeping in an unfamiliar environment, which kept them up all night and left poor Andrea with a wicked headache.  And to top it off, the following morning Spencer laid down on Bryce's bed to rest for a minute after a long night, and the bed broke!  He was able to easily fix it, but I can't imagine this trip was high on their "top vacations" list.  I think that means they need to come back and try again.  I hope they agree with that analysis!

Spencer and Andrea came to Seattle in order to pick up their little sister, Kara, who was getting married the following week.  (Kara and Andrea are also sisters to Ashlee... we know and adore the entire clan).
So, the next Saturday, we got to spend a little more time with the Royal Crew.
While Kara was getting sealed in the Seattle Temple, Mark and I offered to help watch some of their nieces and nephews.
As we toured the grounds, I took the opportunity to tell the kids about what was happening inside.
When I asked if the kids had any questions, Megan raised her hand.  She asked question after sincere question, wanting to know if little girls could make those important covenants.  She is a Spiritual Giant in a tiny body.
After the Sealing, we drove over to Suncadia resort for a beautiful reception.  It was hot, but the kids always have a great time when they get together with their Royal friends.
I took this shot of Bryce and Maggie and casually mentioned that, "in case they ever get married, I'll have a great slideshow to show."
Maggie scoffed, "Silly! You can't marry your cousin!"
Laughing, I informed her that she and Bryce weren't actually cousins.  "Wait," she countered, "you mean you can marry your friends??"
After running around a bit too much, getting a little overheated, and eating a few too many sweets, Bryce was d.o.n.e.  Thane was too, so rather than deal with continued poor behavior, we headed home early.
But we could not be happier for this stunningly beautiful bride, and we are so grateful that we got to share her special day with her and her family.
