Camp Winters: Antarctic Adventures

My friend recently asked me to watch three of her kids while she went to cub scout camp with her fourth.  In anticipating the day, I remembered hearing that her six year old had made a great summer bucket list of places he wanted to go.  One of those places was the Antarctic, so when the kids came over, we spent the day doing Antarctic related activities.
We talked a lot about penguins, read penguin books, and did penguin crafts.
Aubree wanted to make her "Tacky the Penguin" look a bit more true to the story.
We made an "igloo" fort (out of white sheets) and played for a long time with "snow" dough.
Having older kids (Eli is 11) participate really helped set a higher bar for creative expression.
Wall-E
We tried a less-successful sensory bin,
but couldn't miss with water and ice.
It was an exciting adventure, and I've decided I need an eleven year old around to help out all the time.

11 year olds are awesome! Young enough to be excited about being helpful and eager for a little more responsibility. Old enough to take on more responsibility with a good attitude. I have one if you ever need to borrow her.
