Aubree loves to read. Perhaps loves, loves, LOVES to read would be more accurate. She spends at least a couple hours every day reading. She's recently discovered our stash of past issues of the Friend magazine and reads and re-reads all of those stories. I believe reading is one of her gifts/talents; it's so natural and intuitive for her.
This summer we decided to participate in the library's reading challenge. The youngest grade level available was 1st/2nd (since the kids have to be able to read the books independently), but we reviewed the book list and thought it was appropriate. Over the course of 6 weeks Aubree read about 50 books and had to go to the library to answer comprehension questions on each book. She completed the challenge and was invited to attend the awards party where she won a $25 Target gift card! Only 8 kids completed the challenge at the 1st/2nd grade level.
