My mom was able to attend the births of both Aubree and Bryce, and then she stayed around to lend a couple of very capable, very experienced hands in the days following their births. Unfortunately, due to care-giver responsibilities on the home-front, she was unable to come down for Thane's birth. Though we missed her, one of my awesome sisters, Kira, volunteered to come in her place to help out. And what a help she was!
Coming down from Utah certainly wasn't a simple task for Kira, since she has a 21-month old daughter, Kylee, and is 20 weeks pregnant with a little boy (plus she left a sick husband at home...sorry Stew!). Her timing was perfect, though. She arrived Tuesday night and we had all day Wednesday to hang out, let the cousins get to know each other, let my kids get to know Kira, and for Kira to familiarize herself with the house and routines.

When I went to the hospital Kira took over everything at home allowing Mark to spend the nights with me. It was such a relief to know my kids were in good care even if I couldn't be home with them. The kids had a great time with her - she was down on the floor building train tracks with Bryce and Lincoln Log homes with Aubree, reading books to a never-satiated audience - always devising new ways to keep three mostly home-bound kids entertained and happy. Very impressive.
When I got home from the hospital it was still wonderful to have her here. She cooked meals, continued to entertain the kids, helped clean and generally got us moving in the right direction. Mostly, I enjoyed getting to spend time and talk with her. We were sad when it was time for her to go. Bryce especially seemed to miss her. "Where Ee-a?" he kept asking.
Having Kira and Kylee here for the week definitely reaffirms my desire to live closer to family. I really want my kids to know their cousins and aunts and uncles and grandparents. They're so much fun!

We had a blast hanging with you guys! Kylee still asks for Aubree and Bryce, and even baby Thane. We hope we can live closer together too! Love ya!
