Change is on the Horizon

With the changes Pres. Obama has proposed regarding NASA and the future of space travel, there will be significant repercussions at the Kennedy Space Center. The one that most directs us is that the company for which Mark works, United Space Alliance, will no longer be a company once the shuttles finish their scheduled flights. All the employees have recently been informed that when the shuttle manifest is complete (supposedly in Sept. or Oct. of this year), everyone will be laid off. There will also be a (mostly voluntary) lay off in May.
So, it looks like by the end of the year Mark will need to find a new job and we probably won't be living in Florida any longer. This isn't necessarily a completely bad thing for us. We never planned on staying in Florida long term and had even suggested 2010 as a good time to transition. Now the decision has been made for us!
Right now we're thinking that we'll probably wait until the "end" of the company in Sept./Oct., rather than taking the May layoff because that's when our baby is due. However, if a truly fabulous, can't-turn-down job offer came along, we'd make it work.
So, if anyone knows of a good job or has a job lead or any job-related suggestions for a Materials Scientist/Chemical Engineer, please let us know! Also, if anyone would like to buy a house (for significantly more than it's worth), let us know as well. ;)
Thanks!

Wow, you sure sound positive! I hope everything will work out in your favor. Would you like to move to Mississippi?

You do sound really positive with the changes they are making. You should definitely move to Wyoming. He could be an engineer for the Oil Field companies. :) We sure hope you will still be there in May as we are SO excited to see you guys!

Sounds like life is leading you on a great pathway of adventures. :-) One place you could look into is Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (or Battelle). They have a Washington location (by us!) and an Ohio location as well. If you'd like my husband to check into a need for Mark's field, let me know. They have been great to work for! Good luck with both the job search and the new baby!!

While everyone's telling you where to live, might I suggest Lehi, UT? It would be a great halfway point between all the familiy!

Had no idea about that wonderful news. Your kids sound so cute. I wish we were closer for them to play...and for you and me to play.

Best wishes with the job search.

Good luck with everything! You sound very optimistic. I was trying to remember if you are one of those people who are especially good at dealing with uncertainty...it sounds like you are!
