Bryce turned
18 months old one month ago. Those of us in the LDS culture know all too well what milestone that age signals - NURSERY (a.k.a. "parental ability to learn from or teach classes"). His first official week I kept him home because he was sick. The next week went surprisingly well - he lasted an hour and a half before he started to get upset. "Hurray!" I thought, "that was WAY easier than I expected."
Ha! That will teach me. The last two weeks have been horrible. He knows what's coming and starts to cry immediately and won't stop! The week before last he cried for 40 minutes! I would never have let him cry so long if I'd known about it, but I was helping the primary practice for the program and the nursery leader was there alone and couldn't come out to find us. I'm sure that's contributed to the continued difficulties. He's okay if Mark or I am in there with him, but freaks out if we leave.
Wish us luck (and patience).

I can totally relate on the whole nursery thing. Adam and Abigail both went to nursery just fine. (well, after a couple Sundays of leaving them sad but they got over it after a few minutes) Then, Kate was old enough to go to nursery. It has taken us oh, about a 6 mths. to get her to stay in nursery without crying the whole time. I'm sure Bryce will be better, but we are a success story that it does get better :)Hang in there!
Good luck! I know its hard. Laura (at 27 months now!) had her first all-by-herself-with-no-crying day at nursery on Sunday! She was so proud to tell us "No crying!"
I really hope that Kylee is not like that. I can't wait for her to turn 18 months (only 4 months left). I still don't understand how they don't expect 18 mo olds to stay in adult Sunday School, but 12 mo olds can? Just a thought. Let the count down begin!
Just wait... you could be like me and since Andrew did so horrible, they just called me to be the nursery leader! Awesome... Just don't keep on checking on him. It will only make him start crying again every time you appear. (trust me I have two kids whose parents I am about to strangle if they come in one more time!) Good luck!
