Olympics

I'm both loving and cursing the Olympics this year. Of course it's exhilarating and inspiring and fun to watch the athletes compete on the World Stage. Actually, that's the problem. Here on the East Coast the best Olympic coverage begins at 8 pm and runs to well after midnight. Aubree and Bryce still get up earlier than I'd like, so I've been sacrificing too much sleep. I've been tempted to stay up even later and watch the softball games (which don't even begin until midnight), but now that I'm old I just don't function well without sleep. Times like these I wish we had Tivo or DVR. We're actually taking advantage of a free month trial of cable just to watch the Olympics. Having access to so many channels is nice - too nice. And that's why I'll cancel the cable when the month is over; it's just too tempting to spend too much time glued to the television. I know my self-discipline in this area is not great, so it's better to eliminate the opportunity. Here are some of the highlights of the last week.
* Aubree has a busy schedule these days. First, she has her daily dance class. This week she's also been attending climbing class. Both of these classes are held in our living room and Aubree decides when they occur. She'll come marching out of her room wearing one of her leotards or tutus and announce, "it's time for my dance class!" That's my cue to turn on the music. When it's time for "climbing class" she pulls out all her chairs and stools and jumps around from one to the other. It's great that she likes to entertain herself.
* We will be leaving in a week for a trip to Utah & California for my sister Colleen's wedding. Aubree is very excited. In fact, every day she packs her "suitcase" and tells me she's ready to get on the airplane. Her suitcase is always full of underwear and pajamas, but nothing else. Hey Colleen - do you mind if Aubree wears green polka dot pajamas to your wedding?
* This morning Aubree was happily drawing in her coloring books, or at least that's what I thought she was doing. The picture on the right shows what she was really doing. We talked afterwards about why we don't draw on our bodies, but she was adamant that it looked "pretty." I really don't want her to write on herself but I had to work hard not to laugh at her tiger stripes.
*I think Bryce smells so great. I admit that I love to smell his breath - it's fabulous! Am I strange? That's one reason why I'm in no hurry to start him on solid foods. I want to keep him sweet smelling as long as possible (and keep the other end minimally offensive too). With Aubree I was eager and excited to start solids. This time I plan to wait till he's at least 6 months old. It's so much easier not to have to deal with extra feedings, plus I don't think he needs it yet.

Aubree does look adorable in tiger stripes. And Bryce is getting so big. Can't wait to see you guys this weekend.

This weekend! Don't tell me you guys actually get to see each other--I wish you could hear me sniffling in envy. Our kids would love your kids. Maybe Aubree and Eric could answer each other's questions for awhile.
