Aunt Sue graced us with a quick weekend visit in October. After picking her up at the airport, we made our way to a nearby yurt factory. Yes, a yurt factory! Who knew we had a yurt factory in Seattle? Actually, the answer to that question is Sue. Sue knew. Sue loves yurts and is looking into buying one for her property in Hawaii.
Technically, this yurt factory is in the middle remodeling their showroom and isn't giving tours, but Aunt Sue worked her magic and arranged for us to have a guided tour.
The factory was the size of three football fields. They don't only make yurts, but a wide variety of fabrications. Bryce was in heaven seeing all the machines, robotic equipment, and technology.
My experience with yurts is limited to peeking in the windows of a few yurts at a nearby state park. In other words, I thought yurts were small, round, fancy tents with a couple bunk beds inside. I had no idea of how fancy and big they could be - complete with electricity, full kitchens, possible indoor bathrooms, and even lofts.
Even the windows and doors are customizable. We were all super impressed! At the end of the tour, our guide complimented the kids on their excellent behavior and thoughtful questions.
After our tour we went to visit with Katie and her kids. Aunt Sue continued her tradition of spoiling everybody. First, she pulled out a suitcase filled with fancy slipper socks.
The kids took turns choosing their preferred pairs.
They will have warm feet all winter!
Then we took off for our traditional dinner at Mod Pizza. Bryce and Thane moved up from the kid-sized pizzas to the adult-size and still fairly easily polished off their dinners.
On Saturday Sue joined us for sunny, but cold day at the soccer fields, then made her second-year-in-a-row appearance at our ward Halloween party. Mark had to leave the party early to take Aubree to another party, so it was extra helpful to have another adult to take Nellie and Graham around to trunk-or-treat.
Once we got all the sugar-laden children to bed, Sue, a family history expert, helped me figure out some major mysteries in my family tree. It was incredible!
