Though we haven't been on as many field trips as "normal," we have still managed to do a few fun excursions. When the weather was still nice we rowed "Night of the Moonjellies" and took a field trip to the Puget Sound at low tide.
We didn't see any jellyfish, but Bryce and Thane had just learned about magnetism in their science class, so they brought along strong magnets and spent their time combing the sand for iron filings. They got a pretty good collection by the time we left to grab onion rings at Burger King (another "Night of the Moonjellies" tradition).
Aubree invited a friend to join us, and we really enjoyed the beautiful morning.
In October, Aubree and I took a day trip to Ellensburg for a violin conference. Aubree had a day full of classes and performances. I had a day full of time to read. Win-win.
Through our Parent Partnership Program, we had the opportunity to see another Broadway show. This time we saw Aladdin and Thane joined us. It was spectacular! While the show was phenomenal, the drive home was agonizing. Remind me not to try to leave Seattle late in the afternoon.
When we rowed "The Rag Coat" (which is a super great book, by the way), we stopped by a nearby museum. Nellie and Caroline were twinning.
It's a very small museum, and they don't seem to get many visitors, especially on Thursday mornings. When we rolled in with 8 kids, the kind, quite elderly volunteers (the volunteer who helped us the most was 94!) were eager to give us a personalized tour. The kids always love to see the scale model of the town and watch the coal cart move through.
Now that the weather is starting to warm up again, hopefully we'll have more motivation to get out and play!
