It seems Mother Nature is trying to make up for the long, wet winter. We've had perfect days the last few weeks, and have done our best to enjoy them.
At 4 pm most afternoons, my kids eagerly await their friends and neighbors return from public school (and Aubree often comments, "I can't believe how late I used to get home!"). In no time at all, they're gathered at the end of the cul-de-sac for bike and roller-blade riding, endless games of freeze-tag, and sometimes impromptu picnics.
Usually, Nellie enjoys playing with the assorted bikes and toys, but sometimes she insists on sitting in the stroller with baby Eli.
As the weather's warmed up, our good neighbors brought out their sprinklers and water table for even more fun.
Nell wasn't interested in the sprinkler, but she thought the toys in the water table were great.
Last week we had a picnic at the park as our end-of-the-year-preschool-playgroup-party. Bryce and Thane brought their bikes and rode countless laps.
When he wasn't riding, Thane earned bonus awesome-big-brother points by pushing Nellie and William on the swings.
When it was time to go home so Nellie could have a (very late) nap, Little Miss melted down. I should have taken a video, because this picture does not even remotely capture her tears, wails, and bonelessness. I guess she's a park fan.
Last Friday we talked our dear friends into trying out a new hike with us.

The ascent was steep and tiring, but the kids were troupers. We were rewarded with a lovely view before we tackled the equally steep (and doubly buggy) descent.
We probably should have expected as much knowing we were hiking in "wetlands." Note to self, next time, bring bug spray.
On our way home, we stopped at our friend's mini-farm to share some of our expired canned goods with their pigs.
Let's just say it gave a whole new meaning to the saying, "Eat like a pig!"
Today, we made our first of what we hope is a summer full of visits to our favorite local river hangout. Instead of digging in the mud like usual, this time Bryce, Thane and their friends spent most of their time patiently catching tiny fish in the shallow water.
Their persistence paid off, as each of them (even their four year-old buddy, Gideon) caught at least one little fishling.

Graham did play in the mud. Or, maybe the mud played on him?
At one point, he dug his feet in so deep he was legitimately stuck! It took two of us to pry him out.
It took some coaxing, but I finally convinced Thane to smile for a picture.
Aubree joined us, but spent most of her time working on Personal Progress (even though she's not yet in Young Women's) and lounging in the grass.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Pacific Northwest summer cannot be beat.
