What's that cold white stuff?

Yesterday when we left for church, our van looked like this:
"How exciting," we thought, "our kids' first time seeing snow!"  At church everyone asked, "how do you like the snow?"  "You know," they continued, "it really doesn't snow here very often or very much and everything basically shuts down when it does snow."
A few days of a light dusting of snow?  Sounds about right to me.
So, imagine my surprise when I opened the blinds this morning and saw white, white, and more white.  I dutifully bundled my kids up in what little winter gear we own and we spent a frosty few minutes outside in the cold white stuff.
I kept Thane out of the falling snow and he was content to look around and admire the novel situation.
Aubree thought the snow was great fun and wanted to stay outside and play longer.  Considering she was wearing Crocs, I wasn't sure that was the best idea.
Bryce complained, "Ahhhh, the snow is getting on my jacket!"  That's my Florida-boy!
Mark picked exactly the WRONG day to stay late at work (he was stuck in the middle of a project).  Leaving during normal rush hour time combined with the snowy, icy, and dark conditions turned his typical 40 minute commute into a 5+ HOUR ordeal nightmare.

I love snow this time of year. That is what I miss about living in Utah. I just didn't like driving in it, or shoveling it. Or when it got dirty. But there is something about newly fallen snow that is magical.

I was about 10 when I had my first experience with snow. Seeing your kids in the snow brings back great memories.

But then hearing about Mark's nightmarish drive home from work, made me remember the bad part of snow.
