Leprechauns

For St. Patrick's Day, a friend hosted a spectacular play group at her home. All the kids wore green and enjoyed theme-based stories, ate tons of green food, made a rainbow craft, and played outside on the playground and on a huge blow-up water-slide (she owns the slide!). Truly, it was above and beyond any typical playgroup, but Holly is amazing like that. When it was time to leave, Holly gave each parent a bag of gold coins to sneak into each child's car seat "from the leprechauns." Aubree was beyond thrilled to find the gift and spent the whole drive home trying to figure out how the coins "really" got in her seat. Eventually she concluded that maybe the leprechauns really did leave the gift, since the car had been locked during the party.

Apparently, the leprechauns made a bigger impact than I realized, because this morning Aubree decided she wanted to "learn more about leprechauns." To appease her, I suggested that perhaps we could write a story about them. She loved the idea and while I was busy with Bryce, she drew the pictures for her story. At the first available moment, we sat down and she dictated her Leprechaun story. This is the first story she's ever "written" and she is so proud of her "book." Here it is:

That was such a good story! I think I might have to borrow that idea with my kids during the Summer Reading Program here at my Library.
I am so jealous of the slide. I think we need one for after the 5K!
