*For Mother's Day I got a new camera to replace my big, low-pixel, battery-sucking, old camera. My new camera is very small and the idea is that I can keep it in my diaper bag to capture events when we're out and about. Unfortunately, I'm not used to having a camera with me at all times, so I still usually forget to pull it out. I did, however, manage to get the following picture of Aubree and our friend Amanda taking a rest in the shade after picking blueberries at a local U-pick farm. We picked 3 pounds of blueberries (and by "we" I mean "me." Any blueberries Aubree picked went directly into her mouth, so I'd have to say she had a really good time). Amanda (age 7) came with us. She picked almost as much as I did and she almost always gave her biggest, juiciest berries to Aubree. What a nice girl!
*Before Bryce was born I started feeling really crafty (maybe it was my version of "nesting" because I certainly never got the urge to clean!). I borrowed a friend's sewing machine and with the guidance of that friend, sewed some diapers for Bryce (I'll talk more about that in another post) and a few other simple projects. This last week though, I got quite daring and decided to try to make a dress for Aubree. I bought some fabric super cheap at a garage sale so I figured even if the dress turned out terribly, I wouldn't be out much money and it would be a good learning experience. Amazingly I was able to follow the pattern and I think the dress can be considered a success. Most importantly, Aubree really likes it. Here is a picture of her modeling the finished product:
* The other day I was folding the laundry and Aubree was "hepping" (you know, when a kid is trying to help, but really causing more work). In an attempt to distract her I asked, "Aubree, do you want me to tell you a story?" She answered affirmatively so I asked what she wanted me to tell her a story about. I expected her to say "Cinderella," or "Little Critter" or something along those lines. Instead, she thought for a minute then answered, "Jesus." Talk about a melt your heart moment! I actually felt a little guilty that I haven't been making a habit of telling her stories of Jesus (and I plan to do better). I first told her about when Jesus was a boy and taught the men in the temple. When I finished Aubree said, "tell me another story about when Jesus was a boy." There is no doubt in my mind that little children are close to the Spirit. Experiences like this are a testimony to me that we lived with and knew our Father in Heaven before we came to Earth.
